I, personally, have found people are so hot in debate about this election already, and cannot wait to share their thoughts with others. So my question to you, how do you view the election? Do you get involved in politics in any way or do you completely remove yourself from it?
I try to remove myself from it and pray that God will put the person in office whom He wants there. Unfortunately, not everyone understands that nor will they let the conversation go at that. I've been told that nobody should be allowed to "get away" with not voting and even been told by a gentleman that he will personally pick me up to get me to the polls in order to vote.
I want to tell people to just let me be to live with my own convictions but since most of the these situations come up at work, I don't think I ought to. I simply smile and say ok, have a good day!
I know as Christians we are supposed to live a "separate life" but I wonder how some of you do it? How do you define separate? Do you try to explain to people your convictions or do you just let it go? (To be clear, I am in no way trying to start a political debate with this post.)
Blessings in Christ,
Romans 12:2 is my stance on the issue. I find that people look at my attire and understand that I will not be engaging in such events, which is very handy. Some folks assume that I don't even have electricity and that can be a handy assumption at times!
ReplyDeleteL - People usually make the same assumptions with me; however, this gentleman sure didn't!
ReplyDeleteHi Chelsea, I'm new to your blog, and this post intrigued me because I don't vote either. Interestingly enough I have often thought of what I may say to others who ask me why I don't vote, but so far, in 20 years, no one ever has! Still, I need to instruct my children on why I don't vote.
ReplyDeleteAs L said, Romans 12:2 is a good place to start.
1 Timothy 2:1-3 is what we are commanded to do for our authorities. Many like to quote Edmund Burke, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." I, and many others say, "Don't underestimate the power of prayer!"
Romans 13 tells us that there is no power but of God. I don't think He needs my help to put someone in place by casting a vote one way or the other.
I also point out that as I am a citizen of God's Kingdom I have no right to vote in another kingdom. God has set up governments to rule those who refuse to be ruled by God. I have no voting power in any other country, and I relinquish my "right" to vote in this one because I have changed my allegiance.
To those who have questioned my allegiance to this country I tell them, "When I was in the military I fought for the protection of ALL citizens, not just those who vote or support the troops. Is freedom of religion (speech, thought), in this country, only for those who support you?" I usually get no response to that, but I am not big headed enough to believe it is because I have made my point! I only hope it has made them think.
I hope you find more of what you need to be, "ready with an answer." :)
