Swearing

We all know that we should not swear/curse. But what about the words that we use as our own bad words? Everyone has them. I know I do for sure. I say that I do not swear, but it is only the recognized swear words that I can truly say I do not use. I have replaced those words with my own words that I use instead - for example, fudgebuckets, phooey, humph and fiddlesticks.

My roommate and I got into a discussion, she was saying those words would be okay because you are not swearing. I say that if we should not swear we should not speak at all because even when we make up our own replacement words, those become swear words to us. Maybe not speaking is a big of a far idea, but I used to that show my point :) What do you think? Are replacement words just as bad as the word you replaced?? I keep coming back to this question, I know it is the Lord directing me to it, but yet I cannot seem to come to a final conclusion on it.
