The church I grew up in discouraged the reading of Revelation and it is one thing that I have obeyed and still haven't done. In part, the discouragement was due to not wanting children to read it and not have anyone to ask questions to, thus if we had read it with our Pastor, it would have been fine, but I never pursued that. Right now we are studying Revelation in Sunday School and truth be told I'm not a fan of it.
In some cases I am a person who wants to know what will happen before it actually happens, but in other cases, I would rather not know what is going to happen. This is one of those cases. I do not care to know what the end times will be like or how I will die.
The conversation went on last night about how some people are comparing our current president to the Anti-Christ as written in Revelation. Apparantly, the events in Revalation leading up to the end times are something that she sees in our world here right now. I cannot speak on this too much as I have only limited encounters with the Book of Revelation.
But, what do you think? Are things in our world similar to what is said in Revelation?
Blessings in Christ,
I believe by 2050 the end will come because we cannot keep living as we are, however I am wary of reading Revelations because much of it makes no sense to us because it is yet to come.Such things are not for us to yet know.
ReplyDeleteI really do not think that the end of the world will come within my life time however I believe that the end has started after the crucifiction. We are moving towards the end, but how close is it? I have no idea but I do not think that it will happen really soon. People have seen signs of the end of times since the first Christians and the world is moving towards it but we are not yet there. I do not think it is easy to understand revelations so I do not try to, but I venture a guess here.
ReplyDeleteI want to share something my pastor told us about his childhood about putting dates on the end times. He told us all along he had a pastor telling them "The Lord will return before you all finish with high school (they were middle school I think)and the world will be over! Theres no way we will still be around. Odds are we'll be gone by then". Well when the years rolled by and so did graduation nothing happened. He said that MANY kids turned their backs on God and a hope that Jesus would return because of predictions saying "He'll come back in 2035 or 2050" etc. WE DON'T KNOW. I am just warning those who do use that to be careful because only the Lord above knows. (this wasn't really meant for you Chelsea just readers I guess lol).
ReplyDeleteAs for Revelations...I've tried to read it and had no idea what was going on. I have heard people say that some prophesies are coming true now but people have been saying that since Paul's time! I think we need to focus on our Christian lives until they're done. Now sure I DO look forward to the day when Christ comes to take us Home but I'm not going to sit around and watch the news picking out dates. I think that if God wanted us to know when He was coming He would've told us flat out :-) Nice topic!
Oh and by the way, I never understood people calling Obama the anti-Christ...I mean people called Hitler the anti-Christ and I can see that but honestly what cruel devilish thing has Obama done to warrant that title? I guess that's just my thinking but I know the Bible says to respect the authority and government even when we don't agree with them so...
Enough of my ranting! lol
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI asked a similar question to a brother at church a while back, whose answer was along the lines of, "Knowing for certain the events of the future won't benefit me nearly as much as just being ready for it (i.e. being in a right relationship with Christ)." I think he had a good point. "Take therefore no thought for the morrow..." If worse comes to worse, we'll still be in Heaven with our Lord.
Be ye separate...
ReplyDeleteThe brother is certainly making a good point.
Hi, I just came across this post and thought I would comment...
ReplyDeleteI can see the reasons behind not wanting to focus on Revelation or delve too deeply into it and I completely agree with Be ye separate that the most important thing is to simply be ready. As an avid lover (and reader!) of the Bible though, I am not sure that avoiding a book in the Bible is the best approach. After all God inspired it didn't He? Does God reveal anything for no purpose? If you open Revelation to chapter 1 verse 3 you will find that in fact God has pronounced a blessing on those who read and keep the things revealed in Revelation. Can one keep something that he doesn't know? In fact if you read Rev 22:10 you will find specific instruction from God to not seal up the words in the book. If we are not to seal it up do you think it means that we should study it?
Yes, the book of Revelation can seem complicated and daunting - but it doesn't have to remain that way! I find that most of the difficulties arise from people trying to interpret Revelation rather than allowing the Bible to interpret itself. If you would like to see what I mean you might want to check out this series of presentations. http://www.amazingfacts.org/Television/ProphecySeminars/TheProphecyCode/tabid/81/Default.aspx
Listen and compare it with your Bible and I think you may find the book of Revelation to be an unexpected Gold mine!
God bless!
