What has worked somewhat good for me is to read part of Psalms and then part of the New Testament everytime I go to read it. Most of the time I will read one chapter from each part, but if the chapters are short then I may go onto a second chapter. I have started highlighting in my Bible this year, it feels kind of weird to me, almost like I shouldn't be marking up God's word like I am, but I am not sure how else to flag things for my memory or verses that stuck out to me. I suppose I could write them all out, but then I would also lose the context that the verse was in.
This article contains 10 "simple" tips on how to read the Bible. Here is a second article that tells you how to read for better understanding. This would be a good resource for anyone who is thinking of trying to read the Bible for the first time and does not know where or how to start. You can find many more articles by simple googling "how to read the Bible".
Hope this helps, I know I certainly would of liked some tips like these when I first started reading my Bible.
Blessings in Christ,
Great tips. When I came to know the Lord (as I hadnt previously known) I also began to mark my scriptures. Some people have really advanced ways of doing it, but I simply mark the scriptures that really speak to me. Sometimes I mark an entire chapter. (I use coloured pencils by the way). By marking the scriptures it has helped me in my journey of knowing more.
