Almost there!
I am one step closer to being an EMT! I finished my practical testing on Saturday and passed :) Such a huge weight off my shoulders, but now I get to study for the National Registry exam for EMT's. For the most part I do well with testing, but I definitely do not like it! I don't know yet when I will take the test, I am hoping I can take it soon though.

Time to Cover?
I hope everyone had a Blessed Thanksgiving!! I enjoyed my day with my family :) Tonight is my final exam for my EMT class, I will be so thankful when it is over with! I spent 6 hours yesterday studying, but I am afraid I studied too much. As long as I pass the test tonight then I have 5.5 hours of testing this Saturday, but it's hands-on testing on Saturday. Oh boy!
Question for all: What do you feel an appropriate age for a girl to start covering is? One church I was attending for a while, it was when the girl turned 2 that she started to wear her first kapp, then another church I've visited a handful of times it isn't until she is a member that she is allowed to wear a covering (until then her hair is in braids). I personally don't know that 2 is the "right" age for most children, unless the mother is extremely diligent in explaining why she is wearing the covering, but I also do not agree with allowing the girls to go un-covered until they join the church. I would like to say a more appropriate time is when she understands what the covering means, but when one is a part of a church, I understand why there is unity in when it is worn. What do you think?

To be an EMT or not to be an EMT?
Right now I am in EMT classes and will be done in about 3 weeks! I am super excited and am trying to get on a volunteer squad right now. I will be allowed to wear my dresses or skirts and a covering (although I may wear a veil so that my kapp strings don’t get in the way!). About a month ago I was told by someone from the church I am attending (she is not a member, but has been a long-term visitor) that to be an EMT is to go against God’s will because I would be interfering with God’s given right to take a person on His timing. My initial response was that God does not intend for everyone to die when they do not feel well or something happens to them, sometimes it is just a mountain that God gives us to climb and without doctors, nurses, and first responders, some of these people may not make it over the mountain we are to climb. Another thought I had (which I kept silent in my head :) is that she better not ever call an EMT or go to a doctor if she’s going to tell me that. As time has gone on since this conversation, I have talked to a few other people about this. One was my instructor who is not really religious (as said in his own words), but he said that he believes God gives people the gift to help others in need and that God gave someone the smarts to figure out how to help people who have just had an accident or are ill. Another was a Mennonite friend; she responded with just because someone has a broken leg does not mean that God is saying it is their time to go. Not every call is because someone is dying, but I do think that is what the public thinks of most when they think of calling 9-1-1.
I also believe that if it is truly a person’s time to go, then God will not allow the life-saving measures to work; He is more powerful than any medication or intervention that could ever be performed or given to a patient. That is His way of keeping us humble. I am not walking into this thinking that I can personally save each and every person who calls 9-1-1, but if I can even give them peace or comfort, then I believe that I am doing good that God would be pleased with.
P.S. She is the only one who has reacted negatively when I told them I am in EMT training, the rest of the church that knows thinks that it’s pretty neat and exciting.

"More Right"?
Lately it seems I have encountered quite a few people, of varying denominations, who want to argue which denomination does things "more right". Is there such a thing as more right?
Some of the arguments are as follows:
1. We do the Lord's Supper more correct than the Amish because we feet wash, have a common meal and then share the bread & wine.
2. We do not allow our youth to live in one world before they are baptized and then require them to be of the Christian world after baptism, we have them live in the Christian life the whole time.
3. We follow the Lord's wishes with baptism more closely than the Amish because we do not require our youth to wait 6 months before they can be baptized after they confess their faith; typically the next night we will gather for a baptism.
Here's what I think:
1. Does the order of the Lord's Supper really matter? I don't know that it does... Especially if it is changed to allow for less interuptions of the solemn service, ie. the foot washing is done after the sharing of the bread & wine, because in most churches the foot washing is not done in the same room where the service and the bread & wine are shared.
2. This came from a lady who comes from a faith where the girls do not cover until they join the church. I believe that there are different ways to raise the youth and that does not always fall on the Church, it must fall on the parents to decide how to raise their children. If the Church prohibits covering by non-member females then is that really following the Bible? I don't think so. In addition, if a woman is not required to cover before she becomes a member, is she really being raised in a way that will emphasize the Christian beliefs of the church she will join?
3. If you do not have an instructional or discipleship program, how do the youth know what is expected of them after they join the church? I believe the discipleship program is very important in order for the youth to learn the expectations of them when they join the church and for the church leaders to verify that the youth understand what baptism really is and that the youth know what will be expected of them as church members.
I do not mean to judge anyone or any other denomination, it is simply my intent and wish to bring up some new thoughts for us all to think about. Comments are welcome as always :)

Cape Dress
I've been asked to post a picture of one of the dresses I made for myself. This is the first one, I really like the material, but not a fan of how the dress itself fits me. Hopefully I can figure out how to alter the dresses so I will actually wear them!

Zucchini Bread!
This fall I had a craving for some zucchini bread. This is not something that my mom usually made so I'm not sure where that came from :) Anyway, I tried two different recipies. The first not turning out so great, but the second was really good! Thought I would share it.
3 eggs
2 c. sugar
1 c. vegetable oil
2 c. peeled, shredded zucchini
1 can well-drained crushed pineapple
3 c. flour
2 t. baking soda
1 t. salt
1/4 t. baking powder
1 1/2 t. cinnamon
3/4 t. nutmeg
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. raisins
2 t. vanilla
Beat eggs, sugar and vegetable oil until smooth, then add each of the other ingredients while stirring. Bake about 70 mins at 350 in 2 greased loaf pans.
I did not put the nuts or the raisins in my bread, so I reduced the vegetable oil to 2/3 cup instead of 1 cup. I also did not add the full can of pineapple (which could be omitted if you do not care for it).
